Relatable and real. All the best to your wife, and also to you and your family. Cancer sucks and the journey can be hard for everyone involved in different ways. As I write this, my father-in-law literally just passed tonight after a nearly 7 year battle. Looking forward to he upcoming projects mentioned, and I admire the transparency in yur posts. My prayers for you all, and if you don't hear it or even feel it at times... you're doing a great job for your wife, your boys, and as an artist whos work brings joy to many.

Derek, I’m so sorry to hear. That’s a very long fight and I’m sure it took its toll on everyone involved. I hope you and the family can find peace through it all.

So sorry about Julie bro. I’m praying for her and your family. I’m a pastor at my church and will add her to our prayer chain. God bless you. I understand what you’re going through. My ex wife passed from cancer. Her breast cancer was severe and she had it in her brain as well. Technology has advanced considerably since then and I have faith Julie will be fine. May God watch over you all and bring peace and healing and comfort in this difficult time. Bless you. All of my heartfelt love and prayers for your family. ❤️

Shawn Crystal was one of my animation instructors at the Art Institute of Atlanta back in 2005. You could tell he was cut from a different, very sturdy cloth. Glad to hear he's still doing well.

I wish wellness for you and yours, too, Brett. Thoughts, prayers, and love to Julie, yourself, and your boys now and throughout the times ahead. Who knew you were all so capable of living such an epic story?

I have to admit, your title got me to stop for a second and read today, instead of "Storing" it in the read later folder, glad I did. I am a believer and know this was not by chance. I found you through Skottie's recommendation link about 2 months ago. First off, I have to commend you for trucking on! I know all too well as the other gentlemen who posted before me, the task you have ahead of you. As soon as you mentioned those dang drains a flood of memories came rushing back. Your transparency is refreshing! I wish I knew how to do this better during the process. Uncle Sam taught me how to compartmentalize really well. Wether you re a man of faith or not, I will be praying for all of you to heal and crush this STUPID disease! Drawing with your kids is RAD and will be the connections they'll remember during these tough times. Good on you brother.

You're a wonderful artist—and an even better human. You’re a true inspiration, both for the artist I hope to become and the person I strive to be. I’m wishing Julie all the strength and resolve she needs in this chapter of her life, and the same for you and your children. Thank you for sharing your journey—onward and upward!

My wife went through this in 2015. She beat it. So far, so good, but the experience creates a sort of PTSD in many that go through it - annual doctor visits become an anxiety inducing event, even though it seems like you've cleared certain remission milestones.

I think it's great that you're sharing this experience because it's helpful to those of us in the creative professions to witness how someone can stay focused on their craft, but also deal with the weight of such a serious health matter for their spouse or other loved ones. Bills still need to be paid, and we have to learn to be able to manage our emotions, stay creative, and be there for our sick loved ones all at the same time.

I wish you and your family all the best. Stay strong.

Such an incredibly open, beautiful and human post Brett. Not only are you an incredible artist but you continue to inspire me as a wonderful person with these personal posts. It's so easy as a Con attendee to lose ourselves in the buzz and good feelings of the con. That it can be easy to forget that the artist/person on the other side of the table has hardships we know nothing about. But that's not the case with you as you continue to share both the good and the bad in your life.

Truly wishing nothing but the best for yourself, your wife and your kids <3.
