Frank William Cover

TimeLapse

I wanted to highlight Frank William, the colorist on D’orc from issue 6 forward! He did the glorious colors to the reprints of issue 1 2nd printing, 6th printing, and 7th printing as well.!

I asked Frank to describe a bit about himself in his own words, so enough from me…

“My story with drawing began when I was 12 years old. Back then, I made small fanzines and spent hours creating characters, especially warriors, medieval creatures, and dragons. I simply loved drawing and creating worlds of my own.

As a teenager, my art began to evolve, and I also started creating my own stories. My older brother, who is 10 years older than me and also works in the art industry, was one of my biggest influences during that time. Having someone so close to me working professionally in art and watching my development was incredibly important.

At 16, I started making money from my art by teaching drawing. At 17, I got my first major professional opportunities, creating book covers, magazine illustrations, and other projects. For many years, my life was divided between illustrating and teaching. My brother and I even opened a drawing school together, where we continued teaching for many years.

For a long time, I saw myself primarily as an illustrator. Coloring wasn’t really part of my professional path yet.

That changed when I was 25.

A friend of mine was launching a comic through Catarse, a Brazilian crowdfunding platform, and asked me to help with the colors. I accepted mostly because I wanted to help, not because I had any real experience as a colorist. Until then, I had never worked professionally with color.

But that small opportunity ended up opening a door I didn’t even know existed.

Soon after, I was invited to do a color test for *Ordinary Gods* at Image Comics. That was the beginning of my professional career as a colorist.

From that point on, my career took a completely different direction. I had the opportunity to work on many different projects and characters, including Marvel titles such as *Star Wars* and *Scarlet Witch*, as well as Dark Horse projects like *Arcbound*, among many others.

Over the years, I made an almost complete transition from drawing to coloring. Today, I draw much less than I used to, although I still love it, and I still hope to return to creating covers with my own line work someday.

When I look back, one of the things that amazes me the most is realizing that every project seems to have been a stepping stone toward the next one. Each job brought a new challenge, a new experience, and somehow took me a little further.

I’ve had many achievements throughout these years, but the moment I’m living right now feels especially meaningful to me.

I’m currently working on *Dorc*, alongside incredible artists like Brett Bean, and being part of this project is a huge accomplishment for me. It’s very special to look back at this journey and remember that 12-year-old kid making fanzines, drawing dragons, and inventing characters without having any idea where all of it might lead.

I don’t know exactly what the future holds, but I know there are still so many things I want to do.

And maybe that’s one of the best things about looking back: realizing that the story that started so many years ago is still being written.

Today, I can honestly say that I’m living the best moment of my professional life.

And I’m incredibly happy about that.”
